Lori Wegman, ASID, IIDA, principal of Naples-based Wegman Design Group, and the WDG design team were honored with the 2020 Grand Aurora Award from the Southeast Building Conference for their design project Discovery Village at Naples in the category: Best Active Adult Living Community for Rent. The 41st annual competition drew nearly 200 entries in 54 categories for attached and detached housing designs, including interior design, detailing, custom and re-use and renovation work.
“We are delighted to receive this recognition,” said Ms. Wegman. “Once again, our design team has put forth their extraordinary talents to exceed our client’s expectations and to achieve groundbreaking work in senior living design.”
Discovery Village at Naples is an all-inclusive independent living community where resort-style amenities for a carefree lifestyle are at the heart of the community. Based on that concept, Wegman Design Group’s design showcases a variety of amenities to promote social engagement between residents, staff, and neighbors including the Grande Clubhouse offering multiple restaurant-style dining venues. The design communicates a resort-like feel through use of various materials that enhance each space such as the use of custom grille work, built-in planters, and a variety of seating options including booths and banquettes. A unique design element is the 50-seat movie theater with digital surround sound, large screen, snack stand with popcorn maker, and comfortable leather seating with cupholders for a complete movie-going experience.
This year’s judges were impressed by the submittals, and stated that The Aurora Awards continues the legacy of excellence and is consistently sustained by innovation, imagination and vitality of the entrants. Established in 1979, AURORA Awards are presented annually to outstanding builders, planners, architects, developers, designers, interior merchandisers and other housing-related professionals. Residential and Commercial construction professionals actively involved in projects located in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and the Eastern Caribbean are eligible to participate
