Seven years after doing her first healing room makeover for a child undergoing cancer treatments, and more than 75 other local projects completed, plus the launch of 14 additional chapters nationwide. Susan Wintersteen’s non-profit Savvy Giving by Design (SGBD) is poised for an expansion that enables designers to do help families one-on-one in their communities. On April 6th, Wintersteen is hosting a two-hour certification class for any designer interested in flexing their philanthropic muscle in this way.

Partnered with Make-a-Wish, SGBD training will go over guideline standards on SGBD’s processes, installation and parameters regarding trauma-informed design – design that positively impacts healing from a medical crisis.

“I thought if we can get 200 designers in our Rolodex someday of designers across the country that want to partner with Make a Wish and provide that service and follow our standards, then we will help them do that,” said San Diego-based Wintersteen in a recent Zoom interview. The new “pop-up designer program” as she calls it allows designers to sign up to help with projects that pop up in their city without having to join a chapter

Designers who join the session will also be able to access SGBD’s group portal community, and receive product education, in addition to opportunities for mentorship. Wintersteen is holding this for designers who are serious about getting involved, and there is a one-time certification fee of $100. Click here to sign up.
