On July 20, City Council voted 6-0 to fund the design and construction of a new 51,290 square foot Redmond Senior & Community Center with a budget of $44 million, estimated to open late 2023.
The new center will be located on the site of the previous Redmond Senior Center on 325 NW Dogwood Ave, which closed in September 2019.
The project and its design specifics are under an flexible process of design in which the community is able to engage and give feedback.
The Schematic Design phase has just been completed, during which, the floor plans and site elements have been finalized.
The inside of the facility is expected to have a senior lounge, coffee bar, library, exam rooms, arts studio, music room, games room, community rooms and spaces, exercise rooms, locker rooms and multi-use sports courts.
Outside of the building will be pickleball courts, a dining terrace, a patio, a lawn and a garden.
Design Development begins in August. In this phase, the design team will focus on developing mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and structural systems. They will initiate architectural detailing, specify design elements and material types. Finally, this phase will finalize the location of walls, windows, and doors. This phase will bring the design to 60% completion.
Construction is expected to begin in mid-2022.
